A Message from the Secretary-Treasurer

Georgia ITE Members and Friends,

Please take the time to read each section of this newsletter for updates with Georgia ITE as we continue to strive to provide a quality networking platform with exceptional technical content while keeping the safety of our membership in mind.

First, a bigger item of note. Everyone should have received the announcement on Tuesday, May 12 from our President, Kate Shearin, with the Board's decision regarding the 2020 Summer Seminar event. If you did not receive the email, you can view it at the announcements page of our website at THIS LINK.

Second, the 2020 May Monthly Georgia ITE Webinar has also been locked in for Thursday, May 28 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm EDT. When registration opens, you must register and pay the $5 to recieve a PDH. This webinar is not exclusive to Georgia participants, so please feel free to let others know of the PDH opportunity.

Additionally, as you may have seen through other organization announcements, the Georgia DOT is hosting an Information Session on May 27, 2020. The information session will discussion new contracts for Traffic Signal Operations. Please CLICK HERE for the announcement and more information.

Please check out each of the sections below for an update of what has been going on, and what we are looking forward to with the section.

Have a fantastic week and stay healthy!

Sincerely,
Meredith Emory, PE
2020 GAITE Secretary-Treasurer

Summer Seminar

Summer Seminar has gone Virtual for 2020 and the planning is fully underway. Registration will open on Monday, June 1st at $75 for GAITE members and $85 for non-members. We have a whole list of social events, some of which are family favorites of our typical event that we have modified to conduct virtually. I think we are going to end up with some pretty awesome pictures this year!

We have elected to use a professional level ZOOM subscription that will allow us to continue providing parallel sessions on Tuesday as we have done in the past. Due to this change in format, we are in need of new batch of volunteers.  We need a group of online hosts that will initiate the online sessions for the moderators, monitor for technical glitches, delegate control to the speakers, and keep everyone else on mute!  Training will be provided. Please contact Paul Slone if you are interested in volunteering.

Additional details about the program and social events will be announced as we solidify plans. Georgia ITE recently posted an announcement with full details as they currently are known to the Georgia ITE Announcements Page. Please review the announcement for more information.

The theme this year is “Vision 2020” and presentations will focus on seeing clearly into the future and learning from the past. The technical committee has been working hard pulling presentations together. If you are interested in getting involved contact Robinson Nicol (Summer Seminar Chair) or Bill Ruhsam (Summer Seminar Technical Chair) to get involved.

Summer Seminar

It is with a heavy heart that the Georgia ITE Board and the 2020 Summer Seminar Committee announce the cancellation of the in-person event at the King and Print this year.

The Georgia ITE Board and Summer Seminar Committee are committed to providing our membership with a great virtual event that will be on a similar schedule to previous years. We are working though the details necessary to develop a virtual conference at the quality expected but there are some details that we can share right now:

  • We are anticipating offering a full technical program over a three-day period to cover Monday, Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning
  • We are planning social events and competitions for registrants to participate in as desired including some family-friendly Summer Seminar favorites
  • The scholarship auction will still occur but will be conducted online
  • Registration will open June 1st

Additional details about the program and social events will be announced as we solidify plans. Georgia ITE recently posted an announcement with full details as they currently are known to the Georgia ITE Announcements Page. Please review the announcement for more information.
