A Message from the Secretary-Treasurer

Georgia ITE Members and Friends,

Wow! What a start to our 2020 Virtual Summer Seminar! This E-Blast is a short highlight of all the great technical sessions from today and a fun highlight of last nights trivia!

Last night, Summer Seminar kicked things off by giving money away to five different trivia winners across four rounds of trivia: Sports, Music, Very Random Stuff, and Transportation! The biggest payout of the night went to Justin Stutts with $100! See the fun image below for what you missed out on!

This morning's opening session gave us a great start with a run down from Robinson Nicol about this year's seminar and key pointers for participants, Bill Ruhsam gave some highlights for the technical session and virtual expectations, Kate Shearin gave us the low down on our section, and we rounded out our opening session with a keynote address by Andrew Cooley with some great connected vehicle insights! See below for a shot of all the Committee Chairs that made the 2020 Virtual Summer Seminar possible.

Technical Session 1 started with Taylor Wright giving us some key pointers on licensure and insights on the states current mindset on decoupling for the PE license. Kaycee Mertz then gave us some great information on statewide transit and rail which gave insight into how important providers crossing county lines is to rural areas. The session closed out with an exciting presentation from Dr. Michael Hunter on DDIs that included some excellent hand drawings and a few smiley faces. See below for a shot Dr. Hunter in action and some of the great dialog from participants.

Technical Session 2 was an exciting municiple roundtable with five very different municipalities presenting including: Nigel Floyd with Macon-Bibb County, Farhad Alifarhani with City of Columbus, Kenny Thompson with City of Thomasville, Betty Smoot-Madision with City of Atlanta, and Greg Ramsey with City of Peachtree Corners. Each city excelled at highlighting the unique needs and approaches being taken to make sure their city is on the cutting edge of mobility needs. See below for a shot of Betty's presentation.

Lastly, Technical Session 3 rounded us out for the day. First up was Fred Jones giving us a run down on transit transformation and how to incorporate data and technology to improve the user experience. Next Marsha Anderson Bomar gave us some a rundown on the future of MARTA's Five Points Station and its rehab with some very exciting renderings. Closing us out was Rosalind Tucker with some interesting insights to survey results for returning to office versus remaining remote post COVID. See below for a rendering from Marsha's Five Points presentation.

And now, I hope you are all excited to begin tonights social activities! Be on the lookout for another update tomorrow with more updates.

I hope you had a happy Monday and stay healthy!

Sincerely,
Meredith Emory, PE

Scholarship Committee Update

The Summer Seminar Scholarship Auction is live! Please follow this link to see items and bid: https://www.32auctions.com/GAITESS2020

The auction will be open through Wednesday, July 22nd @ 10:45am so check out the items that are currently in there and see if you can walk away with something great. Be sure to click on the items to see more. There are some items you can custom order what your design is even! I'm told folks should keep an eye out for Marsha Anderson Bomar and her sneaky bidding skills.

If you prefer just to make a tax deductible donation, that is also an option. There is a "DONATE" button in the upper right hand corner just for you.

One last thing, there is still time to donate. If you have some crafting skills that can be utilized to create a one of a kind item or some old traffic signal equipment lying around *cough... :)*, we can still add these to the auction for people to battle over in the next couple of days. If you have something you would like to include in the auction, please send an email with a description and picture to Jin Seo ([email protected]).

Please see the email from earlier in the day today for more specific information.
