July 22, 2020 Summer Seminar Day 3 - Newsletter Print

A Message from the Secretary-Treasurer

Georgia ITE Members and Friends,

Day three of the 2020 Virtual Summer Seminar closed out our conference this year with some of our strongest Wednesday attendance! Below we'll highlight our last two technical sessions and give a run down on all the fun social acitivities from last night as well as the submissions and winners for our events that were ongoing through the seminar.

Reminder again to folks, PDHs for sessions can be found on our conference app hosted by Expo Pass. Once you've downloaded the app, you can create an account with the email address you registered for the conference with and be automatically directed to our conference. For more information, please reach out to Robinson Nicol or Bill Ruhsam directly.

We had some great participation or social activities last night of Texas Hold'em, Psych!, Pictionary (brought back for a second night at request), and the Virtual Escape Room! Some of the social activies recieved high enough praise and participation that we are considering options for inclusion next year! See below for a shot of Texas Hold'em where our fearless leader and President, Kate Shearin, was out of the game in about 10 minutes :)

This morning's Technical Session 7 started with Matt Glasser and Luis Velasquez giving us a rundown on how Georgia is positioning themselves to be a national leader in big data analytics. Followed by Dr. Jidong Yang discussing machine learning for real time traffic conflict identification and classification. Lastly, Maria Roell gave a presentation on the findings from the ARC Data Governance Best Practices Report for their Regional TSMO Strategic Plan. Below is a shot from Maria's presentation.

Technical Session 8 closed out our technical sessions with Kate Shearin giving us the information about changes to GDOT Traffic Operations and the newly rebranded SigOps. The session closed out with Paul Slone running through changes headed our way for the GDOT Signal Design Manual and Specifications. Below is a shot from Kate's presentation.

The conference closing gave us the highlights of the conference and some fun images of submissions and winners for the activities and competitions. Below are two of my favorites for the competitions. Enjoy!

Thank you to everyone that made this a Summer Seminar to remember and helped to make it possible. Great job Robinson and Bill and all your committee members! I hope you had a happy Wednesday and stay healthy!
