Georgia ITE Members and Friends,
This is a lengthy E-Blast, so please take the time to review each of the areas of information.
The 2020 June Monthly Georgia ITE Webinar hosted jointly with Georgia Planning Association has been assigned a Zoom Meeting ID and is set for next week on Thursday, June 11 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm EDT. It is a free registration for Georgia ITE and GPA members and $5 for anyone else. This webinar is not exclusive to Georgia participants, so please feel free to let others know of the PDH opportunity.
The Georgia ITE board met on Monday of this week and have a few items we wanted to pass to membership for information. First, we have elected to purchase a professional level ZOOM subscription to support our virtual events and allow for flexibility with our Summer Seminar virtual event.
Second, the board has added a new appointed board position. The position is a "Past President Representative" who is nominated by our group of past presidents. This non-voting position will help advise the board and take on special projects throughout the year. The board is excited to announce that Kenny Voorhies has accepted this position for 2020. The board has begun including this position and hope to add as an elected voting-member position on the board for 2021.
I hope you have a happy Thursday and stay healthy!
2020 GAITE Secretary-Treasurer

Planning projects of all types require a public engagement process, but Covid-19 has made traditional in-person meetings difficult at best, and impossible at worst. Join us to learn more about effectively using virtual engagement tools during this new reality of social distancing and beyond.

The 2020 Summer Seminar registration is officially open! The theme this year is “2020 Vision” and presentations will focus on seeing clearly into the future and learning from the past. Please go to our website event page to find more information and to get registered.
Part of our push to convert this to a virtual event was our strong technical program developed by our SS Technical committee this year. Registration for Summer Seminar will include full access to all 12 of the technical sessions which include a municipal roundtable from several jurisdictions around Georgia and sessions on innovative intersections, freight, transit, big data and so much more. Additional details about the technical program will be released on the website event page soon.
This year’s virtual conference will also include several social events, some of which are family favorites of our typical event that we have modified to conduct virtually. Since this is our first time attempting to do virtual social events, we would like your input on what you would participate in. Please take our very quick survey to provide feedback to our SS committee so that we can finalize the program and work out all the details (this survey will be open through June 12): https://gaite.org/survey.php?id=16
The Summer Seminar Scholarship Auction is also going virtual!! Luckily, we were already planning to add the virtual component before COVID happened. Which means we were already prepared for a full virtual auction. The auction will be available throughout the entire Summer Seminar virtual conference and will end after the final session.
Our Scholarship Committee is currently collecting items for the auction to support our scholarship program. Don’t forget that some of the coolest items are the ones that are home-made so don’t be afraid to try out those craft skills to support the future generation of engineers!
At this point we are still figuring out how to store and distribute items so if you have something to donate, please send a picture and description to the Scholarship Committee Chair: Jin Seo ([email protected]).
Sponsorship options for Summer Seminar are available on our website at THIS LINK. Georgia ITE has modified the sponsorship structure due to the virtual platform this year. For 2020, there is only one level of sponsorship at $500 which includes website recognition, on-screen recognitions between technical sessions, half page digital online program booklet ad, digital program listing and 4 free registrations. Please CLICK HERE to be a sponsor.
Georgia ITE has also figured out a way to include vendors in our virtual event and still have a few spots available for vendors. This will include website recognition, on-screen recognitions between technical sessions, a help page online vendor program add, 1 5-minute “commercial” before a technical session with time after the session to meet with people and 1 free registration. The cost is $400 and does not require an additional sponsorship. Please CLICK HERE to be a vendor.
Thank you to volunteers that have supported the Outreach Committee with the first ever Virtual Exploring Engineering Academy Stem Camp! This event is currently taking place and will end tomorrow June 5. Thank you to Robert Baker for coordinating the volunteer effort.
Our Activities Committee is looking to setup some remote activities like trivia this summer and provide fun prizes. Keep an eye out for more information soon.
Have more ideas for how we can keep our Georgia ITE relationships strong while having fun or have a great idea for how we can work to give back during this time? Please reach out to Nate Prathaftakis.
The Safety Committee got together earlier this week to discuss options for proceeding with activities and initiatives for the end of the year. Please reach out to Sam Harris ([email protected]) if you'd like to get more involved with the Safety Committee or have some good ideas.
