Recent ITE Events

On June 5th, we hosted our first industry-wide intern day with over 50 interns from the public and private sector in Georgia. The exciting day was filled with a Young Professionals Panel, Seasoned Professionals Panel, TMC Tour, and Group Activity based on decisions we have to make as transportation professionals every day balancing safety, operations, maintenance, and funding. Thank you to Jared Allen for leading this event and the volunteers who helped make this a success!
Last month, we heard from Jeff Kupko at our June Monthly Meeting about preparing for AV-First Responder Interactions.
The Young Members Committee hosted their second hike of the year on June 27th, this time summitting Stone Mountain.
Scholarship Committee Update
On behalf of Georgia ITE's Scholarship Committee, we are seeking donations for this year's Summer Seminar Scholarship Auction!
Our Summer Seminar Auction is the main fundraiser for our highly successful scholarship program, which has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships since 1986. In 2025, $50,000 was awarded in scholarships ranging from $3000 to $5000. To continue supporting aspiring transportation engineers, we are seeking unique and high-value items that will capture bidders' attention and create excitement during the auction. Some examples of high-value donations in the past include ticket packages to Atlanta sporting events, free stays at beach houses, Apple products, and rare bottles of wine and liquor, among other generous donations.
If you are interested in donating, please send a description, picture, and approximate value of the item to Merri Minshew ([email protected]) or Hannah Villaran ([email protected]). Your generosity will be recognized during the auction, and you will be directly contributing to the success of our scholarship program.
Thank you for considering this request, and for your potential contribution to our cause. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Karaoke
Join us for Marr-aoke at Beachcombers on the evening of Monday, July 20th during Summer Seminar!
Student Engagement Council

Join us for a virtual speed networking event, where students get to interact with a diverse group of professionals representing different fields and companies.
This event will be held on Teams on Thursday, September 10th from 5:30-7:30 pm with all Student Chapters invited.
Volunteer professionals please contact Ron or Teresa for interest (depending on interest, not all volunteers will be selected).
Technical Exchange
The Technical Exchange Committee is currently in the process of planning the 2026 Technical Exchange with the South Carolina Section ITE (SCSITE) and North Carolina Section ITE (NCSITE).
This is a one-day presentation filled event that allows us to exchange knowledge with neighboring sections. We rotate between adjacent states and are trying to include North Carolina for the first time this year.
We are trying to have two speakers from each state, so six speakers total. We are looking for speakers on any topic, but bonus points if your presentation incorporates projects or examples from Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina! We would ideally like to avoid repeating presentations from Winter Workshop or Summer Seminar. Please email Tyler Martin at [email protected] if you're interested in presenting.
This event will likely take place in Greenville, SC between late September and early November. Stay tuned for more information.
Annual Golf Tournament

The Annual Georgia ITE Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, October 12th at the Country Club of Gwinnett! All proceeds will be donated to the GDOT Traffic Engineer of the Future Scholarship, something that ITE has supported for over 10 years! The tournament follows a 4-person scramble format. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, longest drives, and closest to the pin! There will also be great raffle prizes at the conclusion of the tournament, so be sure to stick around! The tournament will be limited to the first 144 golfers.
Be on the lookout for more information regarding tournament registration and sponsorship opportunities over the next few weeks. An email will be sent out once registration opens.
For all questions related the Georgia ITE Golf Tournament, please contact Scott Zehngraff ([email protected]) or Alex Simmons ([email protected]).

Special Announcement
The GDOT Office of Traffic Operations (OTO) Traffic Forecasting Manual is now available and should be used for all Transportation Management Center (TMC) projects that require traffic forecasting. In addition, all Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) projects requiring traffic forecasts will follow the procedures and guidance outlines in this manual.
The manual establishes the standard procedures, documentation requirements, and methodologies for preparing Traffic Volume Forecasting Memorandums for GDOT Office of Traffic Operations projects. Its purpose is to provide a consistent, transparent, and defensible approach to developing and reviewing traffic forecasts across applicable projects.
The manual can be accessed here:
