Recent ITE Events

Last month, we held our Young Members Spotlight Monthly Meeting with Sarah Wilson (Kimley-Horn), Jack Ihm (Keck & Wood) and Emily Dang (HNTB) as the speakers.

The Planning Committee hosted a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) 101 session led by Jean Hee Barrett and Michael Haire of ARC. We thank ARC for their participation and Andrew Park for coordinating the venue at the HNTB office. The session offered valuable insight into how projects are funded in the ARC region and helped our engineers and planners better appreciate ARC's role in supporting regional economic growth.

The Activities Committee hosted a social sponsored by ATD/Rekor at Top Golf Midtown on May 28th! There are no planned social events planned for June, but we hope to see you all at karaoke night in July at Summer Seminar!

Mentorship Program

This year, Georgia ITE received an impressive number of applications for the Mentorship Program, and we are excited to announce the 2026 cohort. The committee extends its sincere gratitude to all mentors who have dedicated their time and support to guide our young professionals through this program.

The program officially kicked off on May 27, 2026 with a networking social at Monday Night Brewing, where participants had the opportunity to connect with fellow cohort members and their respective mentors. We are excited for the upcoming session in June which will focus on Financial Management.

For any questions, please reach out to co-chairs: Rahul Pasawala ([email protected]) or Emily Wiseman ([email protected])

Legislative Update

A lot made it through Sine Die, but that is only part of the story. Now we are seeing what the Governor actually signed into law and how those decisions will impact transportation and infrastructure moving forward. Here is a quick breakdown of the key bills:

HB 297 (Signed)

HB 297 restructures Georgia's transportation governance by creating the new GTEA and extending MARTA's dedicated sales tax through 2067. This centralizes regional decision-making and provides a long-term transit funding stability, which supported sustained investment in major mobility projects.

HB 1277 (Signed)

HB 1277 updates GDOT project delivery by raising the environmental review threshold to $200 million, removing limits on design-build use, and eliminating mandatory value engineering on large projects. These changes are expected to shorten project timelines, reduce administrative steps, and increase flexibility in how transportation projects are designed and delivered.

SB 447 (Signed)

SB 447 established firm timelines for land disturbance permitting, including defined review periods and faster re-submission turnaround. This creates more predictable approvals and reduces delays that often slow transportation and site development projects.

HB 463 (Signed)

HB 463 lowers the state income tax rate over time and increases deduction, delivering broad taxpayer relief. However, it also reduces state revenue, which has already led to budget adjustments and could influence future transportation and infrastructure funding decisions.
